The Executive Committee has approved the following Resolution of Support for the The Illegal Immigration Enforcement Act, sponsored by Utah Representative Stephen Sandstrom

 

In light of the Utah Compact on Immigration, and the Volume of misleading and negative publicity on Representative Stephen Sandstrom's proposed Illegal Immigration Enforcement Act, the Utah County Republican Party Executive Committee affirms its support for the proposed bill.

 

As stated by Rep. Sandstrom, the "bill is a measured approach. It’s not rushed and it’s been thought through. It’s not an uncompassionate bill..."

 

We agree that the bill is a reasonable policy for addressing illegal immigration in Utah.  All of the court-challenged elements of a similar bill, from Arizona, have been addressed in Rep. Sandstrom's bill. The remaining elements in the bill have already withstood the scrutiny of both the 9th and 10th circuit court of appeals.

 

We applaud Rep. Sandstrom for having the courage to take a meaningful stand on this sensitive issue.
